Evaluación experimental del comportamiento de la velocidad de sedimentación de partículas

El presente artículo de investigación presenta los elementos teóricos, la metodología, resultados y conclusiones de un trabajo desarrollado con el fin de determinarel comportamiento de la velocidad de sedimentación terminal de sistemas de partículasno coloidales de tamaño medio menor a 1.000 nm respecto de sistemas departículas de tamaño mayor a este. Para esto se analiza el comportamiento del factor de reducción de velocidad terminal de sedimentación. Dada la extrema complejidad de la fenomenología del proceso de sedimentación de sistemas de partículas de diámetros medios menores a 1.000 nm, obliga a que este trabajo tenga un carácter experimental. Los resultados alcanzados mostraron que existe una diferencia entre el comportamiento de la velocidad de sedimentación de sistemas de partículas mayoresa 1.000 nm, respecto de los sistemas de partículas cuyo tamaño es menor a este, lo que impacta en el valor que adopta el factor de correcció

Nanoporous silicon-based surface patterns fabricated by UV laser interference techniques for biological applications

The fabrication of selectively functionalized micropatterns based on nanostructured porous silicon (nanoPS) by phase mask ultraviolet laser interference is presented here. This single-step process constitutes a flexible method for the fabrication of surface patterns with tailored properties. These surface patterns consist of alternate regions of almost untransformed nanoPS and areas where nanoPS is transformed into Si nanoparticles (Si NPs) as a result of the laser irradiation process. The size of the transformed areas as well as the diameter of the Si NPs can be straightforwardly tailored by controlling the main fabrications parameters including the porosity of the nanoPS layers, the laser interference period areas, and laser fluence. The surface patterns have been found to be appropriate candidates for the development of selectively-functionalized surfaces for biological applications mainly due to the biocompatibility of the untransformed nanoPS regions.Postprint (author's final draft

Biology and reproductive traits of Drymoea veliterna (Druce, 1885) (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)

Despite the urban and landscape impact caused by Drymoea veliterna (Druce, 1885) (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) larvae on trees of the genus Croton L. (Euphorbiaceae) in the Neotropics, there is no information about its biology and reproductive traits. In this study, we describe the life cycle and reproductive traits of this species. Its life cycle lasts approximately 56 days, the larvae develop during 24 days on average and the longevity of the females is 7 days on average. Females have an average fecundity of 207 eggs. Regarding their reproductive system, the presence of previtellogenic eggs in the reproductive tract of the females is emphasized. The bursa copulatrix and a highly sclerotized signum is depicted. The number of spermatophores found in the reproductive tract of the females was quantified. Male and female genitalia were schematized

ICT-enabled co-production of public services: Barriers and enablers. A systematic review

ABSTRACT: Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are being heralded by governments and international organizations as a means of augmenting co-production of public services and a number of major initiatives are being rolled out around the world. In parallel to these activities, a body of scholarly work is emerging that investigates the extent to which ICTs enable, or, pose a barrier to, public service co-production.
